John C. Fluker

John Fluker is an intense fusion of God-given talent and well-honed skill. A potent brew of vocalist, musician, songwriter, producer, arranger, and teacher, he has extensive experience on the stage and in the studio. His goal is to share his gift of music, not only through his original compositions, but also by teaching others to explore their own musical abilities.

Born in Lansing, Michigan, John grew up listening to the dynamic and spiritually-charged harmonies of his church choir, which he joined as a teenager. The Gospel background provided John the humility he demonstrates regarding his gifts. John garnered technical skill, traditional training, and a strong work ethic at the University of Michigan where he received his Bachelor of Music. However, his musical sensibilities have been accented by more contemporary and secular artists as well.

John is currently Gladys Knight’s musical director and has toured internationally as a pianist/vocalist during which, he performed for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham-Clinton. Gladys Knight’s 2006 Grammy nominated “One Voice” features John singing the duet with her entitled “Did You Know,” as well as leading “He’s Worthy,” contributing as a writer on “He Shines On Me,” and sharing in the co-arrangements of the various hymns. John’s musical collaboration with Kelly Eisenhour, “Parley Pratt’s Great Escape”, recently debuted at BYU’s Education Week.

He has also performed as a side musician for Dionne Warwick, Oleta Adams, Queen Latifah, Whoopi Goldberg, Boyz II Men, David Hasselhoff, Regina Belle, Mavis Staples, Brenda Russell, Stephanie Mills, Sam Harris, and Hinton Battle. He has been a featured soloist for the Carson Symphony Orchestra and has accompanied the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Lately John has also worked with Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour 2), Devon Aoki (2 Fast 2 Furious) in addition to accompanying Jenifer Lewis in "Now What" as musical director.

John has performed on television's "Rosie O'Donnell," "Regis & Kathy Lee," "Roseanne Show," "Soul Train Awards," "The Tonight Show," "Lou Rawl's Parade of Stars," "Living Single," Sinbad's HBO Summer Jam," "Today Show," "Donny & Marie," "Easter Seals Telethon," "Fox After Breakfast," "Welcome Home with Clifton Davis on PTL" (musical director) and Ed McMahon's "Star Search," where he won the Best Male Vocalist Category.

John also works as a vocal coach and is featured in Seth Riggs' "Singing For The Stars." He has coached many clients including Jennifer Lopez, Kim Fields, Mary Hart (of Entertainment Tonight) and Florence LaRue (of The Fifth Dimension). He conducted several vocal workshops in Gospel/R&B styling including Maui Music Conservatory, St. Mary's College, University of Dayton and Cal State Fullerton.

John's compositions have also been successful. He won the 1994 Billboard song contest (Gospel) for his original song "Give Me Two Wings," which along with several more of his compositions, later appeared in the UCLA Gospel Choir's debut CD. He penned several original songs on "Living Single" and in the hit musical Madame Lily, starring Gladys Knight and Dorian Harwood. His composition "God's Rainbow" is a favorite performed by hundreds of children in the LA District United Methodist Church's International festival of Choirs. The International Children's Choir recently debuted his newest composition "Dare To Dream" to an enthusiastic response.

John's love for children is exemplified by his membership in SAG BookPals in which he volunteers time to Harding Elementary School in Sylmar, California.
